Tropical-themed opening brings Rowes Bay community together
A revamped entertainment area at Rowes Bay retirement village in Townsville has been brought to life thanks to a generous bequest from former resident Alice.
About 100 residents and friends attended the official opening of Alice’s Pub in the Paddock this week – a new 80sq m open amenity area which features a built-in bar, fans and modern downlights.
The fully self-contained extension seats about 50 people and boasts toilet facilities and a barbecue area spilling out next to the community’s pool.
Rowes Bay retirement village Residents Committee President John said the redevelopment, which took two years in the planning, is a game changer for the village.
“It’s a beautiful area next door to the pool and is ideal for our tropical location,” he said.
“We live in North Queensland by the beach and love to be outside, with our residents motto being ‘There’s no place we’d rather be’.”
The project came to fruition through a successful collaboration between the Residents Committee, Rowes Bay Retirement Village Manager Stephen and Bolton Clarke’s property team.
The organisation donated extra features including a bar fridge, a 75-inch television, glass washer, 12 new outdoor tables and 50 chairs plus a barbecue.
The bequest made by Alice also funded a modern gymnasium for Rowes Bay residents.
A plaque which pays tribute to Alice has been hung in the new recreational area.
Alice was described by residents as a lady who was willing to help anyone, who loved people and barbecues.
