There’s no place like home at Breezes
Despite travelling around Australia, Bolton Clarke Breezes Retirement Village resident Dorothy always wanted to come home to Mackay.
“My husband Bill and I bought our first caravan in 2001, and in 2004 we spent 11 months travelling right around the whole of Australia,” she said.
“Being born and bred in Mackay, I’m certainly a local. Our family were here so we always wanted to come back here and we never found anywhere else we wanted to move to.”
When Bill’s health started to deteriorate, they decided it was time to move out of their house, which was on a large block of land and into a community where they would be looked after.
“We loved Breezes when we first came here because of the security, the privacy and the design of the house,” Dorothy said.
“Everything is looked after for you. You don’t have to worry about the maintenance or anything.
“We’re only a small community and everybody knows everyone, for me that companionship has been so important.
“There’s always someone to talk to or something on that you can go to – you are surrounded by people who care about you, and always know someone is there if you need them.”
Dorothy stays busy in her role on the social committee and enjoys bringing people from all over the Village together.
“The social activities certainly keep us busy! It’s always good to see everybody and have a catch up - I find it really rewarding.
“Brad, the Village Manager and Jules the Sales Consultant are both very approachable. I get on really well with them, which is fantastic.”
As for the location of the Village, Dorothy says that Breezes is fantastic with all the amenities close by.
“The hospital and medical centres are over this side of town, the shopping centre isn’t far, and the bus stop is right outside the front gate which is handy for people who don’t drive – plus, we are high and dry.
“Life at Breezes is what you want to make of it. If you want to stay inside and not mix then that’s your choice, and if you do want to be outgoing then you can go for it! There’s always something here for you if you want it.”
