The next big adventure at Carrington

Carrington residents John and Kirsten

For Bolton Clarke Carrington Retirement Village residents John and Kirsten, the move to their new unit has been full of serendipitous links to their adventurous past.

The couple say they have been very happy since making the move from their property at Runcorn 19 months ago.

“Our property was getting too big for us. We had a swimming pool and granny flat as well, so we said it was time to sell,” Kirsten said.

“There were two units here that we could move into, and when they showed us this one, straight away we said yes.”

“The team at Carrington were very obliging; they couldn’t do more for us. We liked this unit from the moment we stepped foot in it - we liked the layout, the street it’s on, everything about it,” John added.

“We listen to the birds out the back, it’s beautiful to be close to nature.”

“We loved that it backs onto the bush because we caravanned up and down the East Coast of Australia for 20 years,” Kirsten said.

Meeting people has been part of life for both throughout their careers - for John working on cattle and sheep farms up North, and in the transport business, and for Kirsten in the restaurant industry – and in their travels.

“We would go into places that people had never been before - we were adventurous!” John said.

“And we met so many interesting people, we would sit around the campfire at night and tell some wonderful stories. Some of them we are still in contact with today.

“Now we have found that same community feeling here at Carrington.”

The couple still keep busy, with their family often remarking they need to make an appointment to come and visit.

“We do bowls, we do exercises, I do craft, we go to the city to the Mayor’s seniors’ concert. We go up to coffee, happy hour, and there are games on throughout the month too,” Kirsten said.

“And we have everything else we need just up the road; like our doctor, chemist, shopping centre,” John added.

“The lifestyle here keeps us very fit and busy, but we love it. It’s a great area, we have good neighbours, and the community is fantastic.”
