HOME is where the heart is” rings true for Monee Ponds resident Sarina Roscioli, 98, who lives in Australia but communicates around the globe via new technologies.

Mrs Roscioli said accessing technology training through her Bolton Clarke Home Care Package have paid off, opening pathways that have allowed her to Skype or Facetime frequently with family living overseas like they’re near neighbours – even during restrictions.

“I video call my family daily sometimes on Skype and sometimes on Facebook and I can talk to Italy, Brazil, America – I talk to my cousins and sister-in-law with technology being the bridge to keep us together,” she says.

“I am happy to talk to them and see their smiling faces on the computer. It brings everyone together in one place.

“I also talk to my son in Sydney. The computer is good for me to keep my family together.

“I like music and the opera so sometimes I even sit and listen to podcasts via the Internet.”

Mrs Roscioli says as well as computer lessons delivered at home, her at-home support services include massage therapy, education, and domestic care.

“I like to be free in my home -  I get up when I want and cook when I want.”

Her independence has led her on a life of adventure around the world.

“I was born in Egypt in Alexandria and worked in different countries in Europe as a seamstress for high fashion,” she recounts.

“I immigrated to Brazil and I met my husband, who immigrated there from Italy.”

In 1964 the couple moved to Australia, where she continued her career working with leather goods.
