Series focuses on food and nutrition

The Altura Learning team has worked with the Maggie Beer Foundation to develop and launch a world first online training resource for aged care chefs.

Altura Learning’s Aged care skills for cooks and chefs resource includes 11 video training modules and assessments to improve the food experience for people in aged care.

With the aim of strengthening nutritional intake and overall wellbeing, the series features Maggie Beer and a range of highly respected chefs and dietitians.

Maggie has made it her personal mission to link the latest research about how food can impact brain health and wellbeing with her innate knowledge of the power of good food. This year, she was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia for her service to tourism, hospitality and aged welfare.

“Older Australians deserve the very best food full of flavour, goodness and aroma,” Maggie said.

“I’ve made it my mission to improve the lives of an entire generation of people living in aged care.

“That’s why through the Maggie Beer Foundation we’ve brought together everything we’ve learned from our Masterclasses to create a comprehensive online training series.”

Topics in the online course including Cooking techniques with impact, Rethinking texture modified foods, Embracing foods from diverse cultures and Improving the dining experience. Each is accompanied by a comprehensive information sheet full of practical hints, key definitions, recipe cards and an invitation to an online forum to share ideas and successes.

In 2018 Bolton Clarke was among the first aged care providers to host an in-house Maggie Beer Foundation Masterclass for its entire Food Services team.

The organisation has been recognised for food innovation, including texture modified and culturally diverse foods, at major industry awards programs including the OSCAR Aged Care Hospitality Awards and the Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards.
