Rowes Bay community steps into the future

A 30-bed dementia wing built to best practice design will be part of a major redevelopment at Bolton Clarke’s Rowes Bay residential aged care community in Townsville.

A Development Application for the work, which will modernise the community and enhance facilities for residents, was lodged with Townsville City Council in September.

The project will include replacement of the existing four hostel buildings with a single-storey, state-of-the-art 30-bed dementia wing.

The current residential aged care building will be expanded to accommodate 12 new rooms, including six premium suites.

Bolton Clarke General Manager Property Development James Mantis said the project would respond to the growing need to provide care and accommodation options that promote choice and freedom for people with dementia with quiet spaces, way-finding support and an indoor-outdoor environment.

“Investing in this major refurbishment will help us support residents and families in the way they want, with the very best in innovative design and services,” he said.

“The redevelopment will help us provide a modern environment where Rowes Bay residents can stay active, independent and engaged.”

The existing Rowes Bay community opened with the first retirement living residents in 1991, with the site’s first 30-bed aged care hostel opening on Remembrance Day 1994.
