Resident history front and centre at Fairview
On Tuesday 17th May 2022, residents from the Fairview Retirement Village came together to celebrate the launch of their Fairview History Booklet.
2018 marked the 20th Anniversary of the opening of Fairview Retirement Village in Pinjarra Hills and three years on, residents have completed their literary project to tell the story of the community’s rich history.
The finished work aims to continue where The Country Club: The History of the Repatriation Hospital by Anette Courtney-Baxter leaves off.
Fairview resident Cecilie brought together the stories of the Village with the assistance of other long-term residents, from the closure of the Repatriation Hospital in 1994 and the subsequent building of the Village which opened in 1998 to the present-day, spanning some 23 years.
“I was approached by Kathy Cook, Manager of Fairview Retirement Village and Brenda Whybrow, Secretary of the Residents’ Committee, to ask if I would be interested in writing a history of the Retirement Village,” she said.
“As history was my ‘métier’, I was interested in the project, and this is the finished result.”
Cecilie and her husband Ron sold their family home in Kenmore and moved into Fairview in 2018.
“We were lucky enough to acquire a villa directly facing the pool, and I knew we had made the right decision to move out to Fairview with its lovely grounds.”
The resident history booklet will provide the background to the present homes and give some insight into the proud history and daily life in the village.
