Prawn peeling comp a hit for aged care residents
Brighton aged care residents marked National Prawn Day on 16 March in a novel way, taking on the crustaceans with their annual prawn peeling challenge.
Residents at Bolton Clarke Montclaire have vied for the top title of prawn peeler extraordinaire for the past few years.
The context is simple – residents each get five tiger prawns and race to see who can peel them the fastest.
The reward? Apart from the glory, it’s enjoying the results with some cocktail sauce and a glass of wine.
“This year the winner was Hadyn – and cleanly done too, with not a stray leg in sight,” Lifestyle Services Coordinator Julie said.
“The prize is really just the glory – and for those who don’t win they can still exact revenge by eating the results.
“We all love this competition and for some of us it’s officially the best day of the year.”
