Furry friends keep Ekka fever alive at Inverpine
The sights, sounds and tastes of the Ekka came to Bolton Clarke Inverpine at Murrumba Downs in August when residents, relatives and Bolton Clarke team members enjoyed the annual “Royal Inverpine Show.”
Not to be outdone by the Royal Queensland Show in Brisbane, the aged care community pulled out all the stops with food stalls, entertainment by volunteer Ken Atkinson and of course the all-important strawberry ice creams.
The visiting animal farm was a particular favourite, giving residents and visitors the chance to pat, nurse and learn about animals including llamas, chickens, lambs and pigs.
About 50 residents attended, with those who were unable to leave their rooms receiving personal visits from the special animal guests.
Bolton Clarke Inverpine Activities Coordinator Rekha Singh says the annual show day always brings a smile to the faces of everyone in the community.
“It’s a pleasure to see the residents light up, especially those who grew up on farms or with lots of pets. Events like this are a highlight in our calendar and make a difference to their lives. They love it, and so does our team and volunteers,” she said.
