Flexibility and friendliness a winning combination
Since moving to Bolton Clarke’s Westhaven retirement village in Toowoomba six months ago, Rex and Desley have taken to their new lifestyle like ducks to water.
They say it was flexible contract options that made the move possible and the friendliness of the village sealed the deal.
“The new contract options were a blessing,” says Desley. “It was perfect timing for us, to make it more affordable and manageable.
“The team is kind and caring, and the vibe in the village is one of beauty, homeliness and friendliness. I have not spoken to any resident who has been dissatisfied.”
“I didn’t want to live in houses that felt pokey and identical. We were very particular and thorough. We wanted something that suited us and our existing furniture.
“I think it’s the best kitchen I’ve ever had, and we enjoy having our own garden to tend to and were able to choose how much garden we wanted to maintain ourselves.
“It is wonderful to have our lawns and weed-eating done for us, as well as other maintenance jobs taken care of.
“We enjoy all the other gardens around us, which are all different, so there is no stereotype look to the village.”
The pool, amenities, and follow-on care options available including the co-located aged care community also played into their decision.
“Though there is much to choose from, swimming in the pool is my favourite activity. I’ve been using it most days and I feel fitter than I have for years!” Desley says.
“We also like knowing if one of us got sick, we are still close by and we get priority if we ever need to move into the aged care.”
Rex says they are very pleased with their decision.
“Making the move now rather than later meant we were able to set it up with our health – and enjoy it more,” he says.
“The move was organic and gradual, and everyone has been extremely welcoming.
“Life at Westhaven is one we highly recommend for any older person needing to free themselves of responsibilities to enjoy retirement in a safe, caring and happy environment.”
