Downsizing gets the green thumbs up from Mary

When it came time for Bolton Clarke Cazna Gardens Retirement Village resident Mary to downsize, choosing where to go took no time at all.

Before she moved to Cazna Gardens at the end of 2019, Mary had been living locally at Sunnybank Hills in a three-bedroom, two-storey house. Problems with her hips meant that she had to consider moving into a smaller, low set home but the upside was, her work in the community meant she already knew exactly where she wanted to go.

“I used to do Meals on Wheels at Acacia Ridge and I delivered meals into the Cazna Gardens Village regularly,” she said.

“I knew a few people over the years that had lived in here, and when I moved in there were one or two people still here that I had delivered meals to. I knew that there was a really a good community atmosphere.”

For Mary, the move has reduced the strain of maintaining a house and yard without forcing her to give up her hobbies.

“I used to mow my own lawn, but it just got too much for me. Moving somewhere where the maintenance is looked after was fantastic.

“Now, my next-door neighbour and I enjoy looking after a fairly big area of garden outside our units.

“I’ve always had an eye for gardening, and at the house I loved tending to my gardens, so it’s nice to be able to continue that where I am now.”

As a former Army nurse and aged care worker, Mary understands the importance of staying well for as long as possible. For her, the lifestyle and company at Cazna Gardens is unbeatable.

“Being on the social committee keeps me busy - there is always something on. It’s a good lifestyle here, everything you need is close by, the people are friendly, and you have support if you need it.”
