Celebrating bayside lifestyle at Moreton Shores

Reaching 90 doesn’t mean losing your independence.

Residents at Bolton Clarke’s Moreton Shores retirement living community came together this month to prove that point at an over-90s afternoon tea in the community’s lakeside Bay Club.

The nonagenarians spent the afternoon sharing stories with each other, village manager Roger Hunt and Bolton Clarke General Manager Retirement Living Sandra Glaister.

Mr Hunt said the village supported an active retirement lifestyle.

“Residents play cards, carpet bowls, scrabble, billiards and go on weekly shopping trips to keep busy, as well as continuing their interests in the broader Redlands community,” he said.

“They also have access to our library, the media room, computers and the pool for aqua aerobics, and to the senior-specific gym at our co-located adjacent residential aged care community a short walk around the lake.”

Moreton Shores resident’s committee president Sandra Robson said Moreton Shores’ community atmosphere helped people stay well and independent for longer.

Community members also came together this month to celebrate the 12th birthday of the Moreton Shores community.

Don and Joan Campbell, who live at the village with their their 70-year-old daughter Pam Elder, have been residents since those early days.

The couple, who have been married for 71 years, said living among friends brought them great happiness.

"We've lived here for 11 years now," Mr Campbell said.

"We saw it from the days when a sign was put out the front saying a complex was going to be built.

"Our daughter's kids went to school in the Redlands and she's lived here for over 40 years."
