Carmen and Zorro give back to Fernhill

Looking for a place with a small town feel and a bustling main street, as well as somewhere with access to transport and health facilities, Carmen and her husband Peter found everything they needed at the Fernhill Retirement Village.

15 years ago, the pair relocated from Alice Springs to find a friendly community - not all that different to the small country towns they were used to- located in the centre of Caboolture.

“The people in the Village are so supportive and friendly. They make it feel like a community, rather than just a place to live.” Carmen says.

“We’ve always lived in smaller areas, so there was no way we wanted to live in a major city. But Peter had health issues, so along with good people, the location was a very big factor for us.

“I think Fernhill is one of the best located villages in Queensland!”

Carmen says her assistance dog Zorro is a big fan too.

“I take Zorro for a walk every morning and we do a lap around the Village – sometimes it takes a while because people deliberately come out to talk to him and give him a pat.

“He greets everybody and makes them all feel very special, which is lovely.”

Carmen says that although pets are allowed in the Village, some people are no longer able to look after their own, and that’s where having Zorro around makes all the difference.

“He loves people! I would love to take him to the aged care facility here, too – it just makes you feel good to be able to give back.”
