Caboolture couple celebrate platinum jubilee
It was love at first sight for Caboolture couple Ken and Joy who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Bolton Clarke’s Fernhill residential aged care community last month.
The lovebirds met 20 years ago when Ken worked at a cinema as a projectionist.
“We hit it off together and it was love at first sight,” he said.
They married at St Johns Anglican Church in Campsie, NSW in 1952 and went to Wollongong for their honeymoon.
Ken said they had enjoyed adventures all over the world together, but their greatest achievement was running a taxi service in Manly, Sydney.
“I also worked for a big company in Sydney in retail as a buyer for the electrical department,” he said.
“My wife was a buyer for the stationery department, which specialised in greeting cards.”
In seven decades they say they have never looked back, raising a family as proud parents, grandparents of four and great grandparents of five.
Ken’s advice to others about enjoying a happy marriage is to “be honest and not argue.”
“Nobody wins an argument,” he said.
“Always provide for each other too and plan a happy life together.”
“You’ve got to give, take and also be nice,” Joyce added.
The couple celebrated their special occasion with family and friends at a luncheon in Morayfield.
