Bringing latest aged care design to Lake Macquarie
A state-of-the art residential aged care development will go ahead at Bolton Clarke’s Macquarie View site at Bolton Point following Lake Macquarie City Council approval this week.
The $30 million multi-storey development will provide a contemporary, architecturally designed community that will cater to the growing needs of the Lake Macquarie region.
The project will begin following completion of a new lakeside community hall co-designed by Macquarie View retirement village residents.
It will be the first step in a major redevelopment that will position the site to meet the needs of the region’s ageing population. By 2036 more than one quarter of residents in the Hunter New England and Central Coast PHN region will be aged over 65.
Bolton Clarke General Manager Property Development James Mantis said, the approval paved the way to providing a contemporary residential aged care service which addressed the wellbeing, care and support needs of older people.
“The design brings together evidence-based design principles, environmentally sustainable design initiatives and contemporary technology solutions,” he said.
“For example, we are building in flexible room configurations that allow residents to configure their room layouts whilst also offering couples the ability to stay together.
“There will also be wellness and activity areas to promote more active living with outdoor spaces, balconies and open plan communal kitchens to encourage social interaction and engagement.”
Planning for later stages of the development includes the introduction of independent living apartments once the new residential aged care building is complete and occupied.”
The development is part of a significant capital works program in NSW which also includes expansion of the Darlington residential aged care community at Banora Point Tweed Heads, the development of 64 independent living apartments adjacent to Bolton Clarke’s Cabrini residential aged care community at Westmead, Sydney and a 144-bed residential aged care adjoining the Willowdale Retirement Community at Denham Court, Sydney.
