Bolton Clarke centenarians join Premier for 100+ Club

It’s not every day you celebrate being over 100 years old with more than 50 other centenarians, but that’s exactly what Bolton Clarke residents had the chance to do this month.

From living through Cyclone Tracy in 1974 for Dorothy to experiencing World War II first hand for Charles, the pair shared stories from their combined 200+ years during Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s 100+ Club event at Parliament House in Brisbane.

Making their way from the Gold Coast and Hervey Bay, Dorothy and Charles were one of over 50 Queensland centenarians who joined the Premier for the special event.

“I will admit, I was surprised to see how many of us have reached the age of 100,” says Bolton Clarke Galleon Gardens resident, Charles.

“It was great to meet and talk to others about their life and about how much things have changed over the years.

“Being invited to the luncheon made me feel honoured to be welcomed to the 100+ Club.”

As a proud member of Bolton Clarke’s Centenarian Club, Baycrest retirement village Dorothy says she hadn’t realised how enjoyable the day would be surrounded by her fellow centenarians.

“Initially when I got the invitation I thought no I’m not going, I’m too old - but my daughter insisted that we should go.

“I felt like a queen on the day being picked up and taken to a lovely lunch.

“The funny thing was that as we were leaving to go home, we said to one another ‘see you next year’!”
