Biker Santas on wheels
Christmas has come early for local Moreton Shores aged care residents, who last week had a visit from local motorbike enthusiasts.
The Redlands Branch of the Ulysses Club rolled into the Redlands community on their steel sleighs donned with Santa hats and a sack full of lollies for the locals.
Residents enjoyed the spectacle and joined the bikers for Christmas carols, with some even feeling brave enough to jump on the bikes.
Moreton Shores resident Graham Turner used to be in the Launceston Motorcycle Club and says the visit reminded him of just how much he loves bikes.
“I have always been involved with motorbikes - I used to do road racing, beach racing and motocross which was called scrambles. Our whole family was involved - my brother Ray and my two sons also raced,” he said.
“Warren, who is in the Ulysses club, is also from Tasmania so I really enjoyed chatting about all things motorbikes and Tassie. I only wish I was still able to put my leg over one of the bikes!”
Resident Maria had always wanted to get on a motorbike - in fact for her, it was a bucket list item.
“I was so emotional about it; I’d never had a chance to get on a bike until they came to visit. I’ve been telling everyone about it,” she said.
Prior to COVID-19 the Ulysses Club visited the community every year since 2012 and locals were all excited to have them back.
