Baycrest resident loses locks for a good cause

Bolton Clarke Baycrest Retirement Village resident Lyn Latham has said goodbye to her luscious locks all for a good cause.

Inviting friends, family and fellow Baycrest residents, Lyn participated in the World’s Greatest Shave with an audience from the village, raising a total of $2104 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“My husband was diagnosed about six years ago with blood cancer and was regularly monitored up until about nine months ago,” Lyn said.

“Then the doctors decided he needed chemotherapy, so we now have to travel from Hervey Bay to Brisbane and stay for a week there.

“The Leukaemia Foundation supplies us with an apartment and that’s all cost-free, with counsellors to provide support.

“I decided to do the World’s Greatest Shave to give back what we have received - it’s the only way we could thank them for the assistance the Foundation has given us,” she said.

Lyn and Neil made the move to Baycrest from Townsville as they wanted to retire somewhere that suited their lifestyle needs.

“Living here at Baycrest has helped tremendously because we know we can securely lock the door and walk off.

“We were living in Townsville with a large garden and a four-bedroom home, and it got to the point where I couldn’t manage it on my own.

“We chose Hervey Bay because it’s a popular spot to retire and we looked around Baycrest and found exactly what we wanted.”

Lyn is now flaunting her new do and says it’s something she thoroughly enjoyed doing to give back.

“My husband thinks he has a new wife after the shave - but I keep reassuring him that he hasn’t!”
