Aged care residents getting into the Ekka spirit
From dagwood dogs to show bags and live entertainment, Bolton Clarke Fairview, Pinjarra Hills residents kicked off Ekka celebrations early with all the fun of the show.
Warming up for the week of festivities, residents came together for a fun-filled day with endless games and some classic sweet treats.
Resident Margaret says the day brought back fond memories of her time going to the show in Sydney and later in Brisbane.
“We used to go to the Royal Easter Show every year from when I was five or six years old – my father would take my sister and I,” Margaret said.
“My father’s favourite part was seeing the animals, so we always had to walk through that part with him first.
“He loved seeing all the different show animals and thought that was what shows were really all about,” she said.
As part of the Fairview show day, Margaret and residents took part in some friendly competition with games such as ring toss, catch a duck and slam dunk basketball before having dagwood dogs, fairy floss and strawberry ice cream.
For Margaret, the show was always about the memories she created with her family and the traditions she passed onto her children.“I never did the scary rides but I would sit on the train and go on those more relaxed rides.
“We used to have a limit on how many showbags we were allowed to take away because my sister and I would just keep going.
“We moved up here in the 1970s and then we would go to the Ekka every year with my kids and of course we would go see the animals first,” she said.
