99 reasons to celebrate on Australia Day
Australian born, Australian raised Rosemore aged care resident Vera has always had double the reasons to celebrate on Australia Day.
This year, the Belmore local will celebrate her 99th birthday surrounded by friends and entertainment reminiscing on the many Australia Days past.
Vera was born Talimba, a country town in the Central West of Bland Shire, West Wyalong. Located one and a half hours drive from Wagga Wagga, she recalls being well looked after with her brothers always watching over her.
Some of her favourite memories will be brough back to life at the aged care homes’ Australia Day celebrations on the 26th January.
“I always enjoyed dancing – some of my favourite memories are attending balls and dancing all night,” she said.
“And now I enjoy listening to music with the company of others, and dancing with the entertainers that come to Rosemore.
“I’m really looking forward to Australia Day and celebrating both Australia Day and my birthday with the entertainment.”
Vera who was married and has two sons, worked on the exchange as a telephonist. She says that her life has been a good life that she puts down to giving back to those around her.
“I never drank alcohol,” she remarked.
“And my other words of wisdom would be to always help others, I always helped others when I could.”
