40 years married for Hackham couple

Hackham couple Rachel and John are celebrating 40 years married this year and reminiscing on the two decades they have spent together.

The Holly aged care residents met through their work at Phoenix Society where they both picked, assembled and packed food.

Married at St. Mary's Anglican Church in 1984, they bonded over a love of the Adelaide Crows and dogs. Both social people, the two are often found getting involved in the Holly lifestyle activities.

Rachel, a music lover, particularly loves the concerts, karaoke and singalongs, while former tennis player John loves anything that includes ball games.

The pair say their secret to a long, happy marriage is family.

“We help each other and treat each other well,” Rachel said.

“We adore our family members Annie & Margaret – who are John’s nieces. Annie brings her Golden Retriever named Gordon in for visits too, which we love.”
