21 years of person-centred care at Charles Young home
Bolton Clarke’s Charles Young home at Walkverville has celebrated 21 years of person-centred care since opening its doors in 2003.
Formerly known as Mullana Aged Hostel, the home was officially renamed after former aged care executive Charles Young, who played a key role in developing its care philosophy.
To celebrate the milestone residents, team members and the Walkerville community came together at a high tea event to raise their tea cups to over two decades of care.
“During the early days, Charles Young made a really important step into the transition of modern aged care provisions that focus on person-centred care, which is still at the heart of the work we do with residents today,” Sarah, Charles Young General Manager said.
“It is a great honour for me to lead such a fantastic team here at Charles Young and we are really proud to continue the legacy set by Charles Young himself.”
Mr Young says the home was opened to meet the need for accommodation for older people across Adelaide.
“The staff worked together and collectively we got it going and it continues to be a tremendous home,” he said.
Long-standing resident and centenarian Margaret, 101, says it was an honour to be a part of the celebrations.
“I moved in here after my son found the home for me in 2017,” she said.
“It was so lovely to come together with the other residents to celebrate and we had a really nice morning tea.
“I’m so very happy here and the people around me are lovely.”
